Grey weather

I don’t know about you but I always feel better when the sun shines. September seems to have had a lot of grey days. Sometimes grey all day, sometimes grey in the morning and late afternoon but sun in between times.

I am aware that different colours have different effects on us and try to wear brighter clothes. This is not always possible. The shops are full of black, brown, grey and beige things. Not my idea of good clothes to wear!

So how do you feel about grey weather? Does it get you down or can you see beyond the grey? I try to look for the brighter plants in the garden. I still have a coreopsis that is blooming very well and has lots of yellow flowers. I also look at the changing colours of the leaves. It helps to dispel the grey some times. But when the sun shines I can feel myself blossom with it. So sun please shine today!

Autumn Equinox

It is that time of the year again. The time of equal day and night. The mornings have been misty like a veil between the worlds and the spiders are busy in their webs which glisten in the mist. Yet there are still many flowers in bloom and the trees are still quite green but their colours do change each day going gold and brown. It is a beautiful time of the year.

For me it is a time of contemplation, a time to look back and see what I have achieved and also to see what didn’t get done and question why. It is also a time to make sure I have prepared for the coming winter so that if and when it arrives I have done what needs to be done. Meanwhile I shall enjoy the feeling of mystery as the mist rises and see the glory of nature in the webs of the spiders and the changing colour of the leaves.

How do you feel about this time of the year? Do you do anything special to celebrate?

Signs of Autumn

Chilly mornings and evenings are arriving. There was a frost one morning this week and I managed to get a photo of melting frost droplets on one of my flower heads. The leaves are changing colour now and I have seen several brown ones on the ground.

Yesterday was our village show. There were classes for vegetables, flowers, homecraft, arts and crafts and floral arts. The vegetables were amazing. The love and care that had gone into their growth was very obvious. The flowers as well were beautiful and the cakes were amazing. I entered two photos in the photo classes but did not win anything although my son won first prize for his wild life photo.

The main thing for me about village shows is that it brings the community together and although there is some rivalry it is always friendly. The show was well attended and we all look forward to the show next year. Like the harvest festival it is another sign of Autumn.

What do you see as the signs of autumn?

Working together

Yesterday I heard that a very good friend had passed over. He was a hard working man with strong beliefs and tried to work with others to make sure that the world became a fairer place. As a member of the local council he was never afraid to stand up for what he saw as the right decision but often he was alone in this as others just gave the nod to decision making without really thinking about the consequences of that decision.

Working together is so important. United we stand, divided we fall is the saying. A lone voice can gather others in so that lone voice becomes a voice of many. There is so much wrong in our world. The basic way in which our society lives has not changed since the early years of our history. There is still a huge divide between the rich and the poor.

As a druid I know that this is not how it should be but how can we make changes? Gandhi said that ‘ one must be the change one wishes to see in the world’. Are you being the change? And are you working with others so that the change can take place?
